Makore, tieghemella heckelii, native to western and middle Africa.
Heartwood of Makore wood ranges from pink to reddish brown, sometimes with streaks of mild color variations. Figured grain patterns are common in this wood. Generally straight grain, this is an easy wood to work, though some interlocked or wavy grain, particularly in more figured pieces may be present which could cause some tearout when planing. Makore appears lighter in color when working, but gets deep rich tones and darkens considerably when finish is applied. A beautiful natural luster and not always an easy wood to find, it is a real treasure of a wood.
Makore is a durable wood and does not typically need stabilization. Density of the wood may make penetration difficult on thicker/larger pieces.
